The parents of Generation Alpha: millennials
The Alpha children are mainly the children of the millennials. The millennials were born in the 20th century , between 1980 and 1995. This generation is also known as generation Y.

There are currently more than 3 million millennials in the Netherlands and more than two billion, spread across the world. Their way of life has a great influence on education, media, marketing and work. A large part of this generation is now participating in the labor market and in 2025 everyone will probably participate in the labor market.

Social media is important for millennials. They get inspiration via Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat and regularly post photos online. Millennials are probably one of the first to purchase products via social media, also known as social commerce .

Posting photos of your kids on social media has canada telegram data become commonplace, but it doesn’t stop there: Millennials are also creating social media accounts for their babies. According to a study by Gerber.com , about 40 percent of parents between the ages of 18 and 34 create an account before their child turns one. Just over 7 percent don’t do so until their child’s second birthday. On average, millennials post 107 photos of their children online before they can even walk. That’s double the number of Gen Xers, who posted an average of 56 photos online.

Other generations had to create their own social media accounts and find their way online, but for many of Generation Alpha, it's already being done for them.

GoDaddy's research shows that 20 percent of millennials have already created a website for their children. They do this mainly to reserve the name or to teach children how to use the internet. Another 18 percent of millennials are considering it. For the same reasons as parents who have already created a domain.

Living with social media
Besides the fact that they already have a digital identity, they also cannot imagine life without social media. Instagram was unveiled in 2010. Facebook and Whatsapp were founded before 2010. So the social media platforms already existed. Although Generation Alpha does not use this digital identity much yet. They are still too young for that at the moment.
