Trends are for sale
Promoted trendsPromoted tweets and accounts are tweets or accounts that are displayed prominently in your timeline or Twitter page. Promoted trends are special: a company can buy a hashtag, which is displayed with trending topics. A spicy detail is that such a topic is not yet trending at that time. But by being included in the hit list of topics, it usually becomes trending.
Twitter's dependence on tool developers
A big disadvantage of the ad platform for Twitter is that the promoted tweets and accounts are not visible in all tools, so you never see them when you use TweetDeck. In Hootsuite they are visible again. Twitter is therefore strongly dependent for its revenue on whether or not these functionalities are used by third parties.
Marc de VriesMarc de Vries says that there are still few cases with the ad platform in the Netherlands, because a dedicated Dutch team has only been set up since this summer: "There are now a number of international parties that also work with the platform in the Netherlands, such as Tommy Hilfiger, KPN, KLM and Unilever". In addition, there was a nice case this week from Samsung with a livestream.
Live streams from a tweet
The Twitter Cards functionality allows for additional functions to be added to Twitter. For example, it is possible to show a live stream from a tweet. Samsung did this this week as the start of its #starttheconversation campaign in a collaboration with Vogue. A fashion show from the Bijenkorf could be followed live from a israel phone data tweet (and later viewed via YouTube). The campaign for this lasted exactly 30 minutes of the live stream and could be targeted at fashion-conscious women in the Netherlands.
Samsung embedded stream
Of course, this can also be done by tweeting a link to a website, but that requires click-throughs, which makes people drop out faster. In addition, the tweet with the embedded livestream is easy for users to share with a retweet. This functionality can also be offered by parties such as Hootsuite, if they use the API with this functionality.
Targeting Twitter advertising during TV broadcasts
Wang sees great potential for integrating Twitter with TV. A well-known example that was internationally successful was the integration of Twitter with The Voice of Holland, an approach that is now being followed internationally by many TV shows.
In the United States and France, it is already possible for broadcasters to integrate top moments from a TV program into a tweet. They can distribute fragments directly in a tweet and thus generate extra 'eyeballs' for their shows via Twitter.
