From the interior of Goiás, Elcio Di Carvalho presents himself to the world as one of the most successful composers in 2021.
Owner of hugely successful hits sung by countless icons of country music such as Marília Mendonça, Jorge and Matheus, Maiara and Maraisa, Henrique and Juliano and, of course, the duo of the moment, Israel & Rodolffo.
We spoke with Elcio to learn a little more about his life, career and works.
Who is Elcio Di Carvalho?
Elcio Di Carvalho was born in Itumbiara, the son of Celso Antônio Carvalho and Maria Aparecida Basso. He is married to Carolina Ferreira Carvalho and is the father of Mariah and Maithê. He graduated in agronomy from Ulbra Itumbiara and has nine postgraduate degrees in the areas of customer management, people management and business management.
“Before entering the world of music, I worked for a email service long time dedicated to agronomy, which is one of my passions, and, for a few years now, I have been dedicating myself more intensely to music. Not that it was a secondary concern, but out of necessity for survival, especially because I still hadn’t recorded any music by any major artists,” he explains.
A composer for over 15 years, Elcio values partnerships and it was with three other partners that he created the hit of the moment, yes, that's right, “Batom de Cereja”. But before talking about how the hit was created, let's learn a little more about Elcio Di Carvalho's career in the world of composition.
The song that launched his career
When Elcio met his two friends Diego Damasceno and Fred Liel, who at the time formed the duo Diego and Dyliel , the work of composing together began. The duo recorded some of their own songs, but the biggest boost came with the formation of the duo Fred and Gustavo . The country singers took a chance and recorded several songs created by the trio, and from that moment on, Elcio began recording with other artists, including João Bosco and Vinicius – “Chega de Sofrer” – right at the beginning of the sertanejo universitário movement.
“My dream was to record with the duo Jorge and Mateus , especially since I was from the same city and was friends with the boys. And God prepared a special moment for that to happen. In Eduardo Pepato ’s recording studio in São Paulo, while working on the repertoire for Fred and Gustavo ’s DVD , that moment of inspiration happened and the four of us wrote the song “Calma,” which Jorge and Mateus recorded right after. That was the song that launched my career,” he recalls. And he adds: “After the release of that song, things happened really quickly, and then I started recording with practically everyone in the country music scene.”
From Itumbiara to all of Brazil
Since the explosion of “Calma” Elcio began to dedicate himself more to music, going to Goiânia – the birthplace of Sertanejo – more regularly and gaining new successful partnerships with Juliano Tchula , Marília Mendonça , Maraisa , Maiara , Thales Lessa , among others.
“Almost five years ago I met Junior Pepato , Lari Ferreira and Danillo Davila . They are all great songwriting partners. Together we have written several songs that will be immortalized in sertanejo music,” he highlights.
Elcio Di Carvalho's most played songs!
With so many compositions and so many renowned artists, it's difficult to select which hits to talk about, so we left this task to “the father of the children”, the creator of the hits, to choose four songs that were most important and the order was as follows:
“Calm” by Jorge and Mateus
