Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation Incorporated (SMIC) has been added to the Entity List as a result of China’s civil-military fusion (MCF) doctrine and evidence of activities between SMIC and interested entities in China’s military-industrial complex. The Entity List designation restricts SMIC’s ability to acquire certain U.S. technologies by requiring exporters, re-exporters, and domestic transferors of such technologies to apply for a license to sell to the company. Items that are solely needed for the production of semiconductors at or below advanced technology nodes of 10 nanometers will be subject to a presumption of denial to prevent such key technology from supporting China’s military modernization efforts.

Canon entered the nanoimprinting business in 2014 with the acquisition of Austin, Texas-based Molecular Imprints. The company, renamed Canon Nanotechnologies, holds more than 170 patents for thailand telegram database printing tools, materials, masks, processes, and device designs.

According to Amandine Pizzagalli, technology and market analyst at French high-tech market research and consultancy Yole Developpement, “Canon is the only system supplier that has accumulated expertise in the field of storage memory.”

Other leading manufacturers of nanotechnology lithography equipment include European companies EVG, SUSS MicroTec and Obducat, according to Jole. The Chinese are working on it, but there is still a long way to go.
