How I combined what I love most – development skills and IT consulting

Post by nurnobi40 »

Mladen began his journey to a job that fulfilled all his childhood dreams, because he always knew he wanted to work in information technology, at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) in Montenegro, majoring in computer science and information technology, he recalls.

Computers have been my obsession for as long as I can remember, they're the only thing I've ever been interested in. My uncle had the first INTEL 386 and I loved it, so it was kind of logical for me to enroll in computer science at the Faculty of Science. What I didn't know then was that my first job in Montenegro after graduating would direct me to Zagreb and chart my career path.

How I learned what it means to listen – and hear the client
Right after graduating from college in 2010, he started working as a system stockholder database administrator at Ledo Crna Gora. It was a small team, but his responsibility was great, considering that he was the only one supporting the business unit in Montenegro . However, in addition to the technical part of the job, his tasks also included interacting with people, which he began to enjoy. Technicians and IT people themselves may not always be the happiest in such circumstances, but Mladen swam like a fish in it.

It was also my first encounter with ERPs , that is, I worked as a support for software accessed by various user profiles from production, sales, and purchasing, and I learned a lot about the functioning of not only the system, but also the corporation at Ledo. Of course, it was also my first encounter with the then Agrokor and Zagreb, where I often went to various training courses at the sister company mStart.

The newlyweds finally decided to move to Zagreb because of the love that happened to him. In his new job, he came more and more into contact with consulting . Among other things, he worked on a project to implement the SAP module in production planning, and this only reinforced his desire to develop in a direction that will enable him to work as a business consultant for various clients .

In that job, I understood what it means to listen to the client, hear his or her requirements, and know how to convey their requirements through specifications to our internal developers, and I really enjoyed that.

Then an ad happened that seemed to be written for him.
However, in 2017, he decided to change, changed his job, became a technical consultant in another company, where, among other things, he started dealing with data migration . That job involved a lot of traveling and working with foreign clients, and then he realizes - this is it. Data migrations, foreign clients, a combination of developer skills and business!
