Infinix smartphones are gradually conquering their share of the mobile phone market, which means it's time to take a closer look at them - especially their unique XOS shell. We tell you what the XOS shell is and what features it has.
What is XOS by infinix
Android smartphones can have different operating system shells. By shell we mean a set of user interface elements: desktops, icons, settings, widgets.
Everything we can see on the smartphone screen is the shell. Xiaomi calls it Miui, Samsung calls it One UI, etc. XOS ("X OS") is the shell of the new Infinix smartphones. It was first introduced in 2016 by the Hong Kong mobile phone manufacturer Infinix. Now the phones are running the XOS 15 version based on Android 15. The launcher's signature color is green.
Features of the XOS shell
Let's take a detailed look at the launcher elements.
Desktop. It looks like regular Android desktops, where you can place the necessary georgia mobile database applications. A vertical swipe opens the menu of all applications. To control the shell, you need to master the sign language - swipes, double and triple taps, etc. On the desktop, you can place large folders for grouped applications. At the bottom is a quick access panel with 4 most frequent applications. A long press on the screen will open access to the desktop settings. Here you can customize the appearance, transition animation, and assign gestures for each scenario. There are a lot of settings: the desktop grid, text color, and notification counter. We especially recommend understanding the XOS gesture settings.
Smart panel. This is another screen that opens with a long horizontal swipe from the edges of the screen. Here you can place everything that is often used, and not only applications, but also tools. This panel can be called from any screen and from any application.
Curtain. This is a panel that appears when you swipe vertically. From the right corner, the control panel will appear, from the left, the notification panel. The icons and tools in the panels are familiar: airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, screen recording, etc. The composition of the elements can also be customized.
Lock screen. What we see on the locked screen. The XOS shell is completely minimalist, just the date and time, as well as the selected wallpaper. In the latest versions, the manufacturer has removed advertising from the shell, so there is not even an annoying wallpaper carousel, like in Xiaomi smartphones.
Settings. This section repeats the items of classic Android shells. It is suggested to create an Infinix ID account for data synchronization, in addition to a Google account. There is a cloud service Infinix Cloud, which stores contacts, Wi-Fi settings and other data. In the settings, the Marathon Endurance item attracts attention - a proprietary power saving mode for extending battery life.
Gallery. Another element of the user interface is the photo storage. One of the downsides is that in XOS you can’t select photos with a long swipe, you have to click on each one individually. The shell allows you to create a collage, a slideshow with music overlay using built-in tools. There is a good video editor.
Calls. The settings of the application for calls are impressive. There are such rare tools as call recording, flash during calls and even Insult Blocking - blocking calls from unregistered contacts. There are a lot of call settings, we recommend studying them thoroughly to simplify working with the phone.
Contacts. The contact book is implemented very simply, each name does not have many fields to fill in. Adding and deleting contacts is extremely easy.
But for messages there is no third-party application, and the standard solution from Google is used.
XOS Shell Features
There are some interesting features of the shell that make it unique - if you don't count Tecno smartphones with a very similar firmware HiOS. Both brands are part of the same manufacturer's portfolio, so it's not surprising that they practically copy each other.

Child mode. If the phone often falls into the hands of a child, this shell allows you to activate the Child mode in the settings. Then the child will be able to open only certain applications, a limited time for using the phone will be set, and a warm light mode will be turned on to care for vision.
Magic Ring. You've probably heard about the Dynamic Island on the latest iPhones — a special panel at the top of the screen that displays the most important elements. Infinix has unveiled its Dynamic Island prototype, only it's called Magic Ring. This is a new way to succinctly display important service information: charging animation, low battery reminder, background call, face unlock. In the future, the number of Magic Ring elements on the XOS firmware will undoubtedly increase.
Video during an incoming call. Everyone is already accustomed to the fact that each contact can be assigned a specific photo, but in the XOS firmware they went further: during a call, you can set a video screensaver. This can be a standard animation or your own video file. This feature has not yet been noticed in any other launcher. The video screensaver is set in the call settings.
Call recording. The peculiarity is that it happens without warning the interlocutor. If you activate automatic recording in the settings, all conversations will be saved as audio files. In addition to activating automatic recording of all calls, you can also start recording from any moment, from the menu that appears during the call. Everything that concerns calls is implemented in this shell in a truly original way.
Turbo social network. In the settings you can find this unusual item - there are a lot of features for communication in social networks. For example, you can change your own voice in WhatsApp, improve the appearance of your face during video calls, set up an avatar, use a special set of stickers, etc. In this section you can hang out for a long time, studying all the possibilities.
