In a survey conducted in 2012, GetElastic and Monetate estimated that, following the growth in API usage, by 2016, we would see around 30,000 APIs . In addition, they stated that 100 new APIs would be released every week. Another study conducted by ProgrammableWeb showed that only 2,000 APIs were added to their directory in 2015. Today, it has more than 18,000 APIs, while the ApiHound directory has more than 50,000 APIs.
As you can see, there is some confusion between the data presented by these surveys. This is because they only take into account publicly available APIs, thus not hungary mobile database the growth of private APIs [Public or Private API, how to choose?] . In addition, many organizations only allow access to their APIs through premium accounts, which makes them less visible than public APIs.
Some experts even claim that the growth of private APIs exceeds that of public APIs. The surveys also fail to take into account the fact that many developers prefer to use third-party APIs rather than build an in-house solution. In short, there is still no clear research available on the use of APIs. But their growth over the last few years is indeed a reality.
