The Scrum Guide recently published an update after three years of silence.
In November, Scrum framework overseas chinese in australia co-creators Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber released a new update to the guide to coincide with the 25th anniversary of its creation.
In addition to the difference in length , Julio Roche, Specialist Director of the System Development & Integration area, in Deloitte 's DxD practice , lists the main differences when comparing it with the previous publication from 2017.
Regarding terminology , there are a number of modified concepts:
The concept “Roles” is replaced by “Responsibilities”.
The term “Develop Team” is eliminated and replaced by “Developers”, in order to avoid confusion with “Scrum Team” (team members).
The definition of Scrum-Master is modified from “Servant-Leader” to “True Leader”.
The three artifacts in the guide are associated with a specific commitment.
The new definition of Scrum integrates the concept of Lean Thinking for the first time. “Scrum is based on empiricism and Lean thinking. Empiricism asserts that knowledge comes from experience and decision making based on what is observed. Lean thinking reduces waste and focuses on the essential,” the guide states.
“There is a clear decrease in the orientation towards software products in this version of the Scrum Guide . From the definition of the purpose of the Guide itself, the old founding objective of the software product is left aside, and in this revision it is left in a generic approach related to helping solve complex problems” says Roche.
The official guide is available in English and has already been translated into several languages, including Spanish .
