Nowadays, delivery time has become a fundamental factor when users are going to make a purchase decision. If we “fall in love” with something, we want it as soon as possible. This has led e-commerce to experiment with new horizons and rethink the structure of their logistics networks to respond to this “urgency”. This is how quick commerce or q-commerce emerged.

If you want to know what this new generation of electronic commerce consists of, in addition to the Course in Consumer Behavior and the Course in Online E-Commerce , we at the European University encourage you to read the article below.

What is quick commerce ?
Quick commerce is a new form of e-commerce that amazon database aims to reduce consumer waiting times by delivering their order in the shortest time possible , usually between 10-30 minutes .

This business model is geared towards a very specific type of product for which immediate delivery really makes sense , i.e. items for instant consumption or basic needs. The best example of this can be found in sectors such as supermarkets and grocery stores, fast food, courier services, retail or pharmacies, among others.

However, quick commerce is characterized by democratizing access to all types of businesses. That is, both big brands and local businesses have this possibility to make a place for themselves in a market as competitive as the current one. And not only the usual stores rely on it, but also service providers . They are responsible for making the purchase and delivering it to the customer, charging more for the management than for the product itself.

What does it take to implement q-commerce in a business?
To meet the immediate needs of consumers, that is, to deliver the products they want almost instantly, a business must have:

Big data tools to collect, organize and manage user data.
Delivery crew , either owned or subcontracted to a company . Delivery drivers typically travel on e-bikes, scooters and electric mopeds to ensure fast deliveries and avoid city traffic.
Distribution centers located as close as possible to the established delivery area. To do this, businesses can have logistics hubs at strategic points in the city ( dark stores ) or establish strategic alliances with some local businesses that act as suppliers.
The keys to success in quick commerce
If we had to summarise the keys to success of q-commerce, we could do so in the following 4 points:

Urban context: the pace of life of people who live in cities is usually frenetic and, therefore, organization and immediacy play a fundamental role when it comes to having everything at home when needed.
Type of customer: People who use quick commerce do not usually buy in large quantities. They are also less sensitive to the price of items (some stores and suppliers often charge a small commission for shipping to obtain a certain profit margin). However, these users do not mind accepting this difference as long as the shopping experience is good and of quality.
Time-saving and convenience: both are essential elements for q-commerce users. The goal is to easily obtain essential goods for everyday life as quickly as possible.
Differences between e-commerce and q-commerce
Although both concepts share characteristics such as digitalization, home delivery and speed, the truth is that there are certain nuances or differences between e-commerce and q-commerce.

On the one hand, quick commerce delivery is characterized by being carried out in a matter of minutes , and these deliveries are made using light vehicles . This allows for a reduction in CO2 and makes this business model a more sustainable option.

On the other hand, e-commerce is defined by delivery in hours or days , while deliveries usually use large vehicles or transport .
