The CUPS is one of the concepts that appears on our bills and you may not know what it means. As it is an important code and you may need it, in this article we explain what the CUPS code is and what it is used for.

Knowing the terminology of this sector will help you become familiar with the bills and understand them better. In this case, we highlight one of the fundamental data to identify you as a customer: the CUPS or Universal Supply Point Code.

The CUPS is a unique and invariable code made up of letters and numbers that serves to identify the installation or supply point of each house . This code is maintained even if you change cfo email list suppliers and appears on your electricity and gas bills, being different for each of them. This code can only be assigned by the distributor in your area, when you sign up for electricity or natural gas for the first time.

The structure of the Supply Point Identifier Code
The CUPS consists of 20 or 22 characters:
The first two correspond to the letters ES , in reference to Spain. Therefore, they serve to identify the country .
The following four numbers identify the gas or electricity distribution company . Each distributor has a number assigned by the Ministry of Energy.
The following 12 digits are numbers freely assigned by the distributor to identify the supply point .
The next two characters are the control code and serve to confirm that the CUPS is correct.
In the case of 22-character CUPS codes, two more are added as border points, to identify different meters at the same supply point.
The code may be required to identify your supply by distribution companies, marketers or public administration.
Finding the CUPS on the invoice
Each supplier organises the data differently, but it is usually located in the contract data section , at the top of any bill, which also contains the name of the holder, the power and the contracted rate, among other information.

At Naturgy you can also find the CUPS code on the website, accessing the Customer Area , going to “My office” and then to “My data”.

If you do not have any bill to hand, you can call your distributor and indicate your ID, name of the holder and your address so that they can locate the CUPS code for you. Depending on the distributor, they may ask you for a document proving that you are the owner of that supply point.

Some electricity and gas meters may have the CUPS registered somewhere, although it can be difficult to locate it. Even so, obtaining the code through the meters is not the best alternative, since they are sometimes difficult for users to access.

If you do not yet have a CUPS code because you have not registered for a supply, the marketing company you contract will send it to you by email or the method you use and then you will be able to manage the registration.
