Renewable energy auction in Spain: results and future of the sector

At the beginning of the year, a renewable energy auction was held in Spain in which 2,300 MW were raffled off, and in which Naturgy was among the winners, obtaining 197 MW of photovoltaic and around 40 MW of wind power.
But what are renewable energy auctions?
Very simply, a renewable energy auction is a resource that the State makes available to energy companies in order to promote the incorporation of renewable energy installations into the electricity grid .
To participate, companies must present their renewable energy projects , the infrastructure they want to develop, and the prices at which they would be willing to sell their electricity to the grid .
Energy auctions are a little different, as the bidding is done founder email lists in reverse. The government puts out a certain number of MW, and the companies that want to invest in sustainable projects bid for each MW of energy at a lower price . The lower bid shows that the company is willing to cut its profit margin in order to develop its project.
How did the auction go in Spain?
Competitiveness of the auction : The auction was quite competitive. More than a hundred companies participated and approximately 1,500 bids were submitted, so they were widely distributed among the different winners.
Average price: On the other hand, the average auction price was around €24.47/MWh, a fairly competitive price, but which, for the moment, does not reach the record achieved in Portugal (below €12/MWh).
Projects : In Spain, energy allocation has been concentrated in companies with macro-projects behind them. For the next auction, the Renewable Foundation hopes to work so that projects produced by smaller agents can provide competition comparable to that of larger institutions.
Naturgy at the photovoltaic energy auction in the Canary Islands
Naturgy once again reinforces its commitment to the energy transition and its long-term commitment to renewables by being the largest bidder of the recent power auctioned in the Canary Islands in the first tender process for photovoltaic capacity endowed with FEDER funds (SolCan). In fact, it was the one that won the most MWp, obtaining 44 MWp of photovoltaics.
The company has secured capacity for installations in Puerto del Rosario (11 MWp) located in Fuerteventura and in Gran Canaria it will have the plants El Escobar I and II (3.4 MWp each), Gran Canaria I and II (6 MWp each), Las Salinetas (4.2 MWp) and Telde I, II, IV and V (3.6, 1.9, 2.1 and 1.8 MWp, respectively). These plants will begin construction this year and will be put into operation during the next year.
We continue to take steps towards a model based on clean energy and technologies! With the 197 MW of photovoltaic and around 40 MW of wind power, infrastructures will be developed that will allow more MWh from 100% renewable sources to be injected into the electricity grid.
