The last week of November GHC celebrated its biggest promotion of the year, Black Friday.

For the occasion, they set up a promotional email marketing campaign consisting of a sequence of emails, and right in the first email they made a mistake: they sent an email to 20,000 people in their database with %FIRSTNAME% instead of their name.

Oops.

What did they do?

They turned the tables, acknowledging the error and using it as proof that experimentation has its dangers – in other words, without risk there is no success – and the good thing is that this is a message that is totally consistent with their philosophy.
