It was her first win at the 1984 Nisei Week beauty pageant that paved the way for her acting career. As part of her win, Tamlyn traveled to Hawaii, where she was selected by director John G. Avildsen to star in the first sequel to The Karate Kid in 1984.
Tamlyn played the role of Kumiko and thankfully the sequel was an even bigger financial success than the original. The Karate Kid Part II grossed $115.1 million from a $13 million budget.
Tamlyn's impressive performance soon opened the doors to larger roles, including in the 1990s for Come See the Paradise, a World War II film depicting how Japanese Americans were treated in the lebanon email list United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
In 1991, Tamlyn was named one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People magazine.

Tamlyn's career continued into the new millennium. In 2008 she had a guest appearance on Shonda Rhimes' television series Private Practice. In 2012 she had a role in the gymnastics drama Make It or Break It. Her most recent films include Der gute Nachbar (2016) and Berlin Station (2016).
When Tamlyn isn't acting, she spends her time helping Asians.
