The entry into force of the GDPR last May has marked a turning point in terms of data protection. The new regulation has changed the rules and empowered the user, which is also reflected in the number of complaints filed with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

Why have the number of complaints to the AEPD increased?
Have users become aware that their data is valuable to companies and are many more cautious about giving it away?

Companies left much of their duties for the end, which led to an avalanche of macedonia phone number data requests for consent from their clients in those days at the end of May. But collecting these consents does not automatically mean being adapted to the GDPR . The changes from the LOPD to the new regulation are profound and adaptation takes time.

Furthermore, it is estimated that 4 out of 10 companies do not have it and in the case of SMEs, they are unaware of the GDPR . This opens a major loophole that gives rise to complaints from users who own the data. At the same time, whenever new data legislation comes into force, the number of complaints historically tends to increase. The same occurred with the approval of the LOPD , which practically doubled the complaints received in 2008 when it came into force, compared to the previous year.

In the case of the GDPR , the number of complaints has grown by 133% compared to the same period last year, with more than 3,740 complaints, a thousand more than in the same period last year . As usual, the arrival of a new regulation makes many users aware of their rights.
