Influencers in the spotlight: the Colombian Congress's proposed digital marketing tax

LSocial media has profoundly impacted the digital ecosystem, and content creators wield significant influence over their audiences. The Colombian government is discussing a new bill to impose responsibility for content consumed by minors and a new tax on influencers.


In recent days, it became known that there is a phone number list bill in Congress aimed at taking measures against Colombian influencers , regulating their content and dissemination, as well as establishing the additional payments they must make.

Specifically, the bill, led by Senators Julio Elías Vidal, Alejandro Carlos Chacón, Ferney Silva, and Gustavo Moreno, seeks to "formalize the activity of influencers, guarantee transparency in digital advertising, and promote the professionalization of the sector."

The Colombian Association of Digital Content Creators has explained that if the bill is approved, it could help further improve content control and promote the spread of negative information on social media.
