Specifically in the Brazilian case, since a good part of the left's influence came from the PT, it was a movement that was particularly affected. I think that today, the PT's problem is more about its cadre. It lacks good cadre. Some time ago, the PT drew cadre from civil society, from social movements... and it had excellent ones. That reproduction machine no longer exists. I think we have to look at this aspect of the party. A party without cadre does not have a good electoral prospect . This affects the left as a whole.
I think there are people on the central left who are concerned about the antidemocratic dynamics that are evolving in Brazil today, but the left at the micropolitical level has not developed good candidates. How am I going to find good candidates? The social ecology of this has changed a lot and this fabric needs to be rebuilt. Since the PT is already numerically strong, within the left, its influence will be less noticeable.
Do you think that in this election, in a completely different campaign… I see parties trying to convey the same message through different channels. How will this dynamic of changing the means of communication with voters be?
The message is affected by the health crisis. It will have an impact. So, health will be the main focus and the municipality has everything to do with health. Communication will have to adapt to this external turkey mobile database shock. We will have health as the agenda, a remnant of militarism and Bolsonarism coming in with a strong message of order and, on the other hand, parties with more deep-rooted messages trying to maintain their brand.
In closing: Bolsonaro's relationship with the legislature and the impact this has on the elections, and whether the elections could impact the relationship between the government and Congress. And what can we expect from the government after the elections?
My tendency is to detach. I participated in a debate during the 2016 elections in which journalists and political scientists discussed the impact of municipal elections and vice versa. When I looked at the curves presented there, I saw that they were trying to say that the PT would have a small bench in 2018. I said that it was a causal error. It was a mere association, but you didn't have a real causal relationship . There are other causal relationships in other contexts, but not directly between municipal and national relations, and the situation is very dynamic. So, no matter how much political actors want, little can be said about the relationship.
This will cause a significant change in the situation in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. However, we have to assess each case individually to understand any change.
What could happen is that elected members of parliament will be replaced by substitutes
